Late Shri Kamakhyalal Bajoria was a prominent businessman and a well-known philanthropist of Shillong.
Son of Late Bhajanlal Bajoria migrated to Shillong in the year 1882 from Bombay looking for new business opportunities.
Right from his youthful days Shri K.L. Bajoria had on inherent interest in social causes. Upholding of cultural values constituted on integral part of his personality. During his lifetime he always advocated the fact that ‘Education is fundamental to the shaping and development of culture and social values in children and youth.
Going ahead with his principle of spreading education, he established B.K. Bajoria School in 1975, his most significant contribution to the field of education.
Since the establishment of R.B. Anupchand Hindi High School, Shillong in 1926 he served it in various capacities and was its president for 20years.He was a trustee of the Assam Marwari Shiksha Course. He was the founder member of the Assam Chamber of Commerce and also its President for several years and of various bodies and committees of Assam Government as Chamber nominee. He donated land to found a Higher Secondary School.
He was the member of the Shillong cantonment Board (1936-64) and also it’s Vice-President (1951-64), Member of Shillong Municipal Board (1948-55), Post and Telegraph Advisory Committee, member of-North East Railway Zonal Advisory Committee, Assam Meghalaya Transport Advisory Committee Meghalaya Food committee. He was the founder member of the Assam Hindu Mission, member of its Managing Committee for over 50 years and its president for a couple of years. He was President of Assam Domiciled and settlers Association (1935) and Treasurer of Assam Government Refugee Rehabilitation Committee (1951). He was also the president of Shillong Branch of All India Marwari Sammelan for two terms (1955-56 and 1962-64) and member of All Assam Marwari Sammelan for a long period. He was a Life patron of the Indian Red Cross Society.
His life was indeed one of compassion and service to the society and humanity.
